Abstract

In this era, there are many modern beauty treatments and devices that have been developed, which may potentially lead to alterations of Allah’s creation. Altering the creations of Allah SWT is a forbidden act in religion, as stated in the Quran and Hadith. The Prophet Mu?ammad SAW also explained that such actions receive condemnation (laknat) from Allah SWT. However, there are certain things that, despite appearing to alter Allah’s creation, are not deemed forbidden (haram); instead, they are considered obligatory (wajib), recommended (sunat), or necessary, as seen in the cases of circumcision, trimming nails, and cutting hair. Scholars have different opinions when it comes to assessing the reasons for the prohibition and the true meaning of altering Allah's creation, which is forbidden in Islam. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to examine the principles of fatwas (Islamic legal rulings) regarding the prohibited act of altering Allah's creation according to scholars. The data collection for this qualitative study is done through document analysis of books, theses, and journal articles. The analysis is conducted descriptively. The study's findings reveal that these principles (?aw?bi?) have successfully explained the legal rulings regarding the newly introduced treatments for cosmetics and beauty. Therefore, with the presence of these principles (?aw?bi?), society can avoid engaging in prohibited actions in religion unknowingly. This study is significant because it can provide a clear explanation of the accurate principles (?aw?bi?) as a reference for the contemporary society, where technology is rapidly advancing and becoming sophisticated.
