Abstract

Kosa kata merupakan elemen utama dalam penguasaan bahasa. Melalui kosa kata, frasa akan dapat dibina. Begitu juga kefahaman frasa akan dapat dicapai melalui kefahaman makna kosa kata. Tanpa saiz kosa kata yang mencukupi, penguasaan bahasa tidak dapat dicapai. Kajian ini bertujuan melihat tahap penguasaan kosa kata bidang sastera Arab dalam kalangan pelajar ijazah sarjana muda bahasa Arab. Bagi melihat tahap tersebut, set ujian disediakan melalui terjemahan kosa kata pilihan yang telah melalui kesahan pakar dalam bidang sastera Arab. Sampel adalah pelajar tahun akhir yang telah mengikuti beberapa kursus tentang sastera Arab. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan pelajar lemah dalam penguasaan kosa kata bidang sastera Arab. Kelemahan penguasaan kosa kata memberi implikasi terhadap kelemahan memahami perbincangan dalam bidang ini. Kajian ini turut mencadangkan agar pelajar bahasa Arab dapat menggunakan strategi pembelajaran bahasa bagi meningkatkan pemerolehan kosa kata dalam bahasa sasaran mereka.

Vocabulary is a key in language mastery. Through vocabulary, phrases will be able to be built. Similarly, the understanding of phrases will be achieved through understanding the meaning of vocabulary. Without an adequate vocabulary size, language mastery cannot be achieved. This study aims to look at the mastery of vocabulary in the field of Arabic literature among undergraduate Arabic language students. In order to determine the level, the test set is prepared through the translation of selected vocabulary that has gone through the validity of experts in the field of Arabic literature. The sample is a final year student who has taken several courses on Arabic literature. The findings of the study show that students are weak in mastering the vocabulary of Arabic literature. Weakness in mastery of vocabulary gives implications to the weakness of understanding discussions in this field. This study also suggests that Arabic language learners can use language learning strategies to improve vocabulary acquisition in their tergeted language.
