Abstract

Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) has a module that is used for trainees at two MAIS’ rehabilitation homes, namely Baitul Ehsan and Baitul Iman. This module named “Transformasi Ehsan” has been participated by approximately 2000 trainees since 2014. During this period, more than 70%–80% of former trainees have reported successful self-transformation and istiqamah after leaving the rehabilitation center. Therefore, this study discusses the way this module is developed and implemented for trainees; examines the challenges faced and improvements needed. This study uses a qualitative method through interviews with three experts consisting of supervisors, module drafters, and implementers who were interviewed through Round Table Discussion (RTD). The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted with 13 trainees from Baitul Iman dan Ehsan. The interview data from RTD was analyzed using thematic, descriptive, and narrative analysis approaches through ATLAS.ti software. Interview findings from RTD found that “Transformasi Ehsan” has gone through a very careful module construction process; has training of trainers for implementers and initial exposure to trainees before implementing the module; has a special program for external protection for former trainees who have no direction; and empowers discipline through the merit system. Meanwhile, the findings of the FGD interviews found that trainees have changed after following this module. However, there is still a challenge, which is that there is no specific sub-heading related to communication management, which is a constraint for trainees when starting the trial in the introductory session, and there is no specific module related to how to deal with and manage faith trainees. Thus, the RTD interview results suggest that the improvement of module content can be adapted according to current needs and that modules are coordinated with the readiness of implementers and trainees, especially from the point of view of infrastructure, expertise, and problems encountered when implementing modules. This study is expected to help related parties improve existing practices and improve the effectiveness of the implementation of the Ehsan Transformation Module.
