Al-Ahkam al-Shar'iyyah li al-Rada' fi Daw' Maqasid al-Shari'ah al-Islamiyyah [Breastfeeding in the light of the objectives of Islamic law (Maqasid al-Shariah]

Abstract

Breastfeeding is important for the growth, health and intelligence of the baby's mind as the beneficial qualities are not found in formula milk. Similarly, it is important for mother to stabilize the hormones and health after birth. This article aims to explain the sanctioning of breastfeeding from the perspective of maqasid syariah.  The methodology used in producing this study is guided by a qualitative method using data collection methods through content analysis of turath books and contemporary works. The data were analyzed based on 3 scopes, namely in the aspect of studies on breastfeeding, breastfeeding in the aspects of physical and psychological health, maqasid syariah and social impact on the prohibition due to breastfeeding.  The results of the study found that breastfeeding provides benefits to all parties not only to the mother and baby as evidenced in the scientific findings. In fact, it affects the sustainability of the health system and the balance in the life of the family and society. All of these are maqasid syariah found in breastfeeding.
