Abstract

Kosa kata memainkan peranan yang penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Ianya menjadi asas kepada penguasaan sesuatu bahasa khususnya kepada pelajar bahasa kedua. Berdasarkan dapatan yang diperolehi daripada kajian-kajian lepas mendapati bahawa masalah utama pelajar dalam menguasai bahasa adalah berpunca daripada kekurangan kosa kata terutamanya dari aspek penguasaan saiz kosa kata. Oleh hal demikian, pengkaji terpanggil untuk membuat tinjauan literatur berkaitan kajian penguasaan kosa kata menerusi dimensi saiz dan pengukuran kosa kata bahasa Arab telah dilaksanakan di Malaysia. Selain itu juga, kajian ini juga ingin mengetahui saiz kosa kata ideal yang perlu dikuasai oleh pelajar di setiap peringkat berdasarkan daripada saranan para sarjana. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa terdapat lima aspek yang telah diterokai oleh pengkaji-pengkaji sebelum ini khususnya dalam bahasa Arab iaitu kajian berkaitan saiz kosa kata dengan kemahiran bahasa, saiz kosa kata dengan strategi pembelajaran bahasa, saiz kosa kata dengan penguasaan pengetahuan kosa kata, saiz kosa kata dengan tempoh pembelajaran bahasa, saiz kosa kata dengan pengetahuan kolokasi bahasa Arab serta saiz kosa kata di peringkat universiti. Dari aspek jumlah saiz kosa kata minimum yang perlu dikuasai oleh pelajar pula adalah 2000 patah perkataan. Namun begitu, Nation & Waring (1997); Webb et al. (2017) mencadangkan agar 2000 hingga 5000 patah perkataan perlu dikuasai oleh setiap pelajar bagi menjamin kefasihan mereka dalam berbahasa.
Vocabulary plays an important role in language learning. It is a basis for the mastery of a language especially for second language learners. Based on the findings obtained from previous studies, many researchers found that the main problem of students' weakness in mastering the language is due to the lack of vocabulary especially from the aspect of vocabulary size mastery. Therefore, the researcher is called to do a literature review related to the vocabulary mastery through the dimensions of size and measurement of Arabic vocabulary has been implemented in Malaysia. At the same times, this study also wants to know the size of the ideal vocabulary that should be mastered by students at each level based on the scholars’ recommendations. The results of the study found that there are five aspects that have been explored by previous researchers, especially in Arabic studies related to vocabulary size is vocabulary size with language skills, vocabulary size with language learning strategies, vocabulary size with mastery of vocabulary knowledge, vocabulary size with language learning period, vocabulary size with knowledge of Arabic collocation and vocabulary size at university level. In terms of the total size of the minimum vocabulary that students need to master is 2000 words. However, Nation & Waring (1997); Webb et al. (2017) suggested that 2000 to 5000 words should be mastered by each student to ensure their fluency in speaking.
